A large political rally in
Ilorin on Tuesday saw renewed support for the re-election of President
Bola Tinubu and strong calls for the governorship of
Kwara State to be zoned to
Kwara North in 2027.
The rally, held at Metropolitan Square, Asa Dam, attracted party members, stakeholders and supporters from across the state, signalling rising political mobilisation ahead of the next election cycle.
Speakers at the event stressed the need for equity, fairness and justice in the distribution of political power, urging the All Progressives Congress at both state and national levels to zone its governorship ticket to Kwara North.
Representing traditional rulers from the district, the Emir of Lafiagi, Muhammed Kudu Kawu, said the demand reflects the long-standing aspiration of the people.
He noted that Kwara North has remained largely excluded from the state’s top leadership despite its contributions to electoral victories and political stability.
Kawu added that the district has consistently demonstrated loyalty and unity during elections and deserves consideration in the interest of fairness and inclusiveness.
He also appealed to stakeholders in other districts to support the call, saying the move would promote unity and sustain Kwara’s reputation as the State of Harmony.
The rally featured key governorship aspirants from Kwara North, including Sen. Sadiq Suleiman Umar, Mohammed Omar Bio, Tajudeen Abdulkadir Audu and Salihu Yakubu Danladi, who presented a united front at the event.
