ADC Alleges FCT Pressure Over Abuja Convention Venue, Vows to Proceed

A faction of the African Democratic Congress led by David Mark has accused authorities in the Federal Capital Territory of attempting to frustrate its planned national convention in Abuja.

In a statement posted on X on Monday, the faction’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, alleged that the management of Rainbow Event Centre informed the party of external pressure to withdraw the venue.

He claimed the venue owner said he had been threatened with revocation of his licence by officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority and the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, if the facility was used for the event.

Abdullahi said the party had fulfilled all financial obligations and formalised an agreement with the venue before the development.

Despite the alleged pressure, he stated that the faction would proceed with its convention at the venue as scheduled, insisting it would not be deterred and describing the situation as an attempt to undermine democratic processes.

The allegation comes after Wike earlier denied claims that he prevented the party from using Eagle Square for its convention, maintaining that no formal application was submitted.
