The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentewe Yilwatda, has assured longstanding members of the party that new defectors will not be allowed to take over its leadership structures.
Yilwatda gave the assurance on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with party stakeholders in the Abuja, stating that both legacy members and new entrants would be accommodated through a balanced power-sharing arrangement.
He emphasised that while the party remains open to new members, it would not permit any group to dominate or displace those who built the party.
According to him, the solution lies in an inclusive formula that ensures fair representation for all blocs within the party.
The APC chairman outlined a five-dimensional framework for party structure in the Federal Capital Territory, including gender inclusion, geopolitical balance, representation of indigenous groups and youth participation.
He disclosed that a committee chaired by Zephaniah Jisalo had already carried out zoning arrangements for the FCT chapter, noting that the process adhered strictly to party guidelines.
Yilwatda added that no member had raised complaints of marginalisation, stressing that the party’s constitution would guide its forthcoming congresses.
He also highlighted the need to give women greater roles within the party, beyond mobilisation during elections, urging that they be included in substantive leadership positions.
The chairman reiterated that inclusiveness remains central to the party’s structure, noting that diverse representation strengthens unity and stability within the APC.
