Atiku, Obi, Amaechi, Others Converge in Ibadan for Opposition Summit

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has arrived in Ibadan for a high-level opposition leaders’ summit hosted by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, as political actors intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The summit, currently underway in Ibadan, has drawn key opposition figures including Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Rauf Aregbesola.

Also in attendance are Peter Obi, David Mark, Jerry Gana, Saminu Turaki and Pat Utomi.

Discussions at the meeting are expected to focus on pressing national issues, emerging political alignments and strategies ahead of the next general elections.

The convergence of prominent opposition stakeholders from across the country has heightened political attention, with observers closely watching for signs of possible coalition-building among parties and leaders.

Security has been tightened in key parts of Ibadan as the summit progresses, reflecting the profile of attendees and the sensitivity of the deliberations.

Analysts say the meeting could mark an early step toward forging a more coordinated opposition front, as political actors explore alliances and shared interests ahead of the 2027 polls.

The outcome of the summit is expected to influence ongoing debates on leadership direction, party strategy and the broader realignment of opposition politics in Nigeria.
