Court Orders El-Rufai to Remain in ICPC Custody Pending Bail Conditions

A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has ordered former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, to remain in custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

Justice Rilwanu Aikawa, who granted the bail, ruled that the former governor must meet the stipulated conditions before regaining his freedom.

El-Rufai is being prosecuted by the ICPC over alleged corruption during his tenure as governor.

Reacting to the ruling, Hayatudeen Lawal Makarfi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress and an associate of the former governor, described the bail conditions as excessive.

He said the requirements include financial obligations running into N200 million, landed property and several other conditions, which he noted were numerous and difficult to meet.

The case continues as the former governor remains in custody awaiting compliance with the bail terms.
