The
Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the commencement of applications for the second cohort of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training programme to boost skills acquisition and employment nationwide.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Monday via his X handle, describing the initiative as a key component of the administration’s human capital development drive.
Alausa said the programme begins a new application phase from April 13, 2026, with the portal opening at 4:00 p.m., and urged Nigerians across age groups to apply.
He noted that the first phase recorded over 1.3 million applications, reflecting strong demand for practical and vocational skills across the country.
According to programme details, the initiative offers fully funded training in various technical and vocational fields, with two tracks including a six-month short-term certificate for beginners and a one-year advanced programme for participants with prior experience.
Applicants are required to present a valid National Identification Number and Bank Verification Number, while the advanced track also accepts proof of prior learning or educational certificates.
Participants will receive free tuition, monthly stipends, hands-on training and nationally recognised certification, alongside access to start-up support and business loans upon completion.
Training areas include electrical installation, welding and fabrication, digital media, automobile repairs, fashion design, agriculture and renewable energy, among others, with centres located across the six geopolitical zones.
The programme is part of the broader reforms of the administration of Bola Tinubu aimed at strengthening skills development and reducing unemployment in Nigeria.
