FG to Deploy 200 Special Forces to Türkiye for Training

The Federal Government has concluded plans to deploy 200 Nigerian Special Forces to Türkiye for advanced military training as part of efforts to strengthen defence capacity.

The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), disclosed this on Saturday in Antalya on the sidelines of the 5th Antalya Diplomacy Forum after a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Yasar Guler.

He said the agreement provides for the immediate deployment of the personnel upon his return to Nigeria.

Musa noted that both countries also agreed to deepen defence cooperation through joint production of military equipment and technology transfer.

He described the relationship between Nigeria and Türkiye as longstanding, adding that the partnership would enhance Nigeria’s defence capabilities.

According to him, Türkiye’s progress in military hardware production presents an opportunity for Nigeria to improve its defence industry through collaboration.

The minister said the partnership would also cover training, defence production and exchange of military personnel.

He added that Nigeria’s experience in fighting insurgency aligns with Türkiye’s counter-terrorism efforts, creating room for shared expertise.

Musa further disclosed that joint military exercises between both countries are expected to commence later in the year as part of the expanded cooperation.

The forum, which attracted participants from about 150 countries, featured discussions on global security, defence and other strategic issues.
