INEC Records 3.4 Million New Voters in Ongoing CVR Exercise


The Independent National Electoral Commission has recorded over 3.4 million new voters in the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise nationwide as of April 3.

In a week 13 update released on Wednesday in Abuja, the commission said a total of 3,441,121 registrations were completed through both online and physical processes.

INEC disclosed that 2,068,384 citizens registered via its online portal, while 1,372,737 others completed their registration at designated centres across the country.

A state-by-state breakdown showed that Jigawa State recorded the highest number of registrants with 201,047, followed by Lagos State with 181,095 and Kano State with 177,681.

The commission said youths aged 18 to 34 accounted for the majority of registrants, with 2,354,768 entries representing 68.43 per cent of the total.

It added that women recorded higher participation, with 1,922,143 registrations compared to 1,518,978 males.

On occupational distribution, students formed the largest group with 1,235,931 registrations, followed by individuals in business with 701,912 and those in farming and fishing with 615,967.

INEC also reported that 48,330 persons with disabilities were captured during the exercise.

The commission described the figures as provisional, noting that they remain subject to review during the claims and objections period and further verification through the Automated Biometric Identification System.

INEC urged eligible Nigerians who are yet to register to complete the process through its official platforms before the deadline.
