Kwara Police Foil Kidnap Network, Arrest Five Suspects

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers in a coordinated operation targeting criminal activities in the state.

The command disclosed the development in a statement issued on April 28, 2026, on its official X platform, noting that the operation was carried out on April 23 at Oke-Iya community.

According to the police, operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit acted on intelligence and collaborated with local vigilantes and forest guards during the raid.

Three suspects, identified as Idris Umar, Muhammed Usman and Abdullahi Abubakar, were initially arrested in connection with a recent attack in Idiya community where five persons were abducted.

The command said two of the victims had earlier escaped from captivity before the arrests.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa, believed to be linked to the same kidnapping operation.

Police said items recovered from the suspects include a locally fabricated rifle modified to fire AK-47 ammunition and eight rounds of live ammunition.

The suspects are currently in custody, while investigations continue, with the police stating that they will be charged to court upon completion of the process.
