Lagos GAC Endorses Hamzat for 2027 Governorship Race

The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of Lagos State has unanimously endorsed the Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.

The endorsement was announced on Tuesday at Lagos House, Marina, by Alhaji Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, who spoke on behalf of the council.

The GAC members also confirmed that they had paid for Hamzat’s nomination form, further strengthening his emergence as the party’s preferred candidate.

The development follows a similar endorsement on Monday by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who publicly backed his deputy as his successor after a private meeting at Lagos House, Marina.

At that meeting, Hamzat formally informed members of the State Executive Council and key party stakeholders of his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

Prominent political figures, including members of the GAC such as Musiliu Obanikoro and Ganiyu Solomon, were present.

Reacting to the endorsement, Hamzat expressed appreciation to the governor, describing the support as a strong vote of confidence in his leadership.

In a post on X, he said he was honoured by the endorsement and noted that his years of collaboration with Sanwo-Olu had strengthened his commitment to public service.

He added that he remains focused on sustaining development in Lagos State and serving residents with integrity, purpose and dedication.
