The Lagos State Government has emphasized the need for responsible use of technology in schools following a three-day training on digital pedagogy and Artificial Intelligence for selected secondary school teachers.
The workshop, held from April 8 to April 10, 2026, was organized by the State Teaching Service Commission for teachers across the six education districts and the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board.
The training, themed Digital Pedagogy and Artificial Intelligence for Teachers on GLs 15 to 17, took place at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hall in Lagos as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning outcomes in public schools.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Ali-Balogun, said the introduction of AI-focused training was timely due to rapid technological changes in the education sector.
He urged teachers to adopt digital teaching methods, artificial intelligence and problem-solving skills, noting that modern strategies should promote creativity, productivity and mutual respect in classrooms.
Ali-Balogun added that the initiative aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and commended efforts to strengthen teacher capacity through continuous training.
In her remarks, the Chairman of TESCOM, Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, said the programme represents a shift from teacher-centred to learner-centred education.
She urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve classroom delivery and student performance, while maintaining ethical standards, including data privacy and responsible use of technology.
Peregrino also encouraged teachers to share the knowledge with colleagues, describing them as agents of change capable of shaping a digitally literate and ethically grounded generation.
She added that Artificial Intelligence should serve as a support tool to enhance teaching effectiveness, stressing that the role of teachers remains central and irreplaceable.
