Makinde Hails Joint Security Operations as Key to Oyo Stability

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has attributed the sustained peace in the state to deliberate collaboration and synergy among security agencies, saying coordinated efforts have been central to maintaining stability.

Makinde made the remarks while hosting participants of Syndicate 5 of the Executive Intelligence Management Course 19 on a study tour of the state. He was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Musibau Babatunde.

The governor said the relative peace being experienced across Oyo State is the result of structured cooperation among security institutions rather than isolated interventions.

He added that joint operations and intelligence sharing among agencies have significantly strengthened the state’s security framework and contributed to the protection of lives and property.

According to him, incidents involving ethnic militias have reduced to almost zero, noting that visitors are free to independently assess the security situation in the state.

Makinde said the study tour would provide valuable intellectual and practical insights that could support broader efforts to address insecurity in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Commandant of the Nigeria Institute of Security Studies, Halimah Ibrahim, Director of Studies, said the course theme focuses on ethnic militias and resource competition in Africa and its implications for national security.

She explained that participants would engage stakeholders, visit key institutions and assess development initiatives to better understand the link between governance, resources and security challenges.

Earlier, the governor’s Executive Assistant on Security Cooperation, Lukman Omoniyi, welcomed the delegation and expressed confidence that their visit would be productive, noting that Oyo State continues to prioritise knowledge-sharing as part of its development and security strategy.
