Midnight Attack in Plateau Leaves Two Dead, Several Injured
Two people were killed and several others injured when suspected bandits attacked Hwol Gassa community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday night.
The attack occurred around 10 pm on April 25 when heavily armed assailants stormed the village, overpowered local vigilante members, and opened fire on residents, according to a community member, Mafeng Gyang, who spoke on Sunday.
Gyang said the attackers, believed to be Fulani militia, shot indiscriminately, killing two people and injuring many others, although the exact number of casualties remains unclear due to the chaos that followed.
He added that the sudden assault forced residents to flee their homes, with many escaping to neighbouring villages and nearby forests in search of safety.
According to him, calls were made to security agencies during the attack, but no response was received as the assailants operated without resistance.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, and the Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycarp Oteh, were unsuccessful as they did not respond to calls or messages at the time of filing this report.
