Former President
Olusegun Obasanjo has criticised the administration of President
Bola Tinubu over rising insecurity in the country, saying any government that fails to protect lives and property has no right to exist.
Obasanjo made the remarks during an interview with News Central, where he reacted to the recent wave of killings and abductions across Nigeria.
He said the primary responsibility of any government is to guarantee the safety of its citizens, stressing that failure in this regard undermines its legitimacy.
The former president also faulted members of the National Assembly for determining their own salaries and allowances, describing the practice as unconstitutional.
According to him, the responsibility for fixing remuneration for public office holders lies with the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, not the lawmakers.
His comments come amid growing public concern over security challenges and governance issues in the country.
