Opposition Parties Agree on Single Presidential Candidate for 2027

Opposition political parties in Nigeria have agreed to present a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election in a move aimed at strengthening a united front against the ruling party.

The resolution was adopted on Saturday at a national summit of opposition party leaders held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where top political figures met to discuss strategy ahead of the next presidential election.

Among leaders present at the summit were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, alongside other opposition stakeholders.

Officials of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde also attended the meeting.

The decision signals growing efforts by opposition parties to forge an alliance and avoid a divided vote in the 2027 presidential contest.
