Rhodes-Vivour Urges Lagosians to Reject Political Control

Former Labour Party governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has called on Lagos voters to use the 2027 governorship election to end what he described as “baba sope criminality” and elect a governor accountable to the people.

Rhodes-Vivour said only Lagos residents have the right to determine who governs the state, insisting political power should not be controlled by a few individuals.

He made the remarks while reacting to reports alleging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had been directed to resign on health grounds, claims the Lagos State Government has dismissed.

In a post on X, Rhodes-Vivour criticized what he described as attempts to reduce decisions about governance in Lagos to the will of one individual and a small political elite.

He said the belief that Lagosians have been stripped of political agency was mistaken and argued that decisions about electing or removing a governor belong solely to the electorate.

According to him, voters alone reserve the right to decide when they are dissatisfied with a government and when leadership change is necessary.

Rhodes-Vivour urged Lagosians to use the 2027 election to reject entrenched political control and restore accountable leadership in the state.

He said the election presents an opportunity to elect a governor beholden to the people and not political godfathers, adding that the push was in the interest of all Lagosians.
