Tinubu Approves Land for Foreign Envoys in Abuja to Enhance Engagement
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved the allocation of land in Abuja to ambassadors and high commissioners-designate.
Wike disclosed this on Wednesday while receiving the envoys during a courtesy visit led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Ahmed, at his residence in Abuja.
He said the initiative is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic presence and enhancing engagement with foreign missions, while also supporting efforts to attract foreign investment into the country.
The minister urged the diplomats to promote Nigeria’s economic interests abroad, noting that their roles are critical in advancing the government’s economic diplomacy agenda.
Wike emphasised that ambassadors represent the image of the country globally and must project confidence in Nigeria as a viable investment destination.
He added that the move aligns with ongoing efforts by the administration to boost investor confidence and deepen international partnerships.
The minister also dismissed concerns about Nigeria’s political system, stating that the country remains a multi-party democracy with no plans to adopt a one-party structure.
Highlighting developments in the Federal Capital Territory, Wike said the administration is expanding infrastructure across Abuja’s area councils to position the city as a modern global capital.
He called on the envoys to attract investment into key sectors such as agriculture and waste management, particularly in areas like Gwagwalada and Kwali, which he said hold significant untapped potential.
Wike further revealed that the FCT Administration is pursuing partnerships with countries including Saudi Arabia and Egypt, as well as the European Commission, to support development initiatives.
Earlier, Dunoma Ahmed said the visit formed part of an induction programme for the envoys, aimed at familiarising them with Abuja’s strategic importance as Nigeria’s administrative and diplomatic hub.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the FCT Administration to promote investment, tourism and international cooperation.
