Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, on Wednesday said President Bola Tinubu has endorsed his governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 election.
Hamzat disclosed this after a meeting between the President and members of the Governance Advisory Council of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He said the delegation, led by GAC Chairman Tajudeen Olusi, presented his candidacy to the President, who gave his approval and support.
According to him, the endorsement reflects the confidence of party leaders in his capacity to lead the state.
Hamzat described the governorship task as challenging but said his experience in office has prepared him for the role.
He noted that his tenure as deputy governor under Babajide Sanwo-Olu has given him insight into governance and administrative processes.
The meeting followed a series of endorsements within the party, including Sanwo-Olu’s backing and the GAC’s unanimous adoption of Hamzat as its preferred candidate.
The council also resolved to purchase the N50 million nomination form for the deputy governor in support of his ambition.
Despite the endorsements, party leaders said the All Progressives Congress would still conduct its governorship primary in line with established guidelines.
Hamzat has served as deputy governor since 2019 and previously held office as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure in Lagos State.
