Tinubu Nominates Tegbe as Power Minister, Seeks Senate Confirmation
President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination, announced on Thursday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, is aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms in the power sector, improving national grid stability and attracting sustainable investment.
The President has already transmitted Tegbe’s name to the Senate for screening. The development follows the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 30 years of experience across both public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives on fiscal policy reform, governance and institutional transformation.
He currently serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinates bilateral development efforts between Nigeria and China.
According to the statement, Tegbe also has prior experience in regulatory and institutional reforms within the power sector, including engagements with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
“The President expects the Minister-Designate, upon confirmation, to bring his extensive expertise to bear to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector,” the statement added.
