Tinubu Reaffirms Bid for Re-Election, Dismisses Pressure to Step Down

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his intention to seek re-election, saying he will not be forced out of office despite what he described as coordinated political opposition.

Tinubu made the remarks amid rising political activity and heightened debate over security and governance ahead of the next general elections, insisting that his administration remains focused despite criticism and alleged attempts to undermine it.

He said opponents were attempting to use the country’s security challenges as a political tool against his government, accusing unnamed rivals, including former allies, of orchestrating efforts to weaken his leadership.

“They tried to get rid of me, but I refused to go. I am a very stubborn politician,” Tinubu said. “I will campaign for my second term, and I will win.”

He further alleged that some actors were exploiting insecurity to advance political interests and destabilise his administration, though he did not name specific individuals.

Political observers say the remarks reflect an increasingly tense political atmosphere as parties and key figures begin positioning ahead of the next election cycle, with attention now shifting to possible alliances and contest strategies.
