President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday asked the Senate to screen and confirm Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
The request was contained in a letter read on the floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and referred to the Committee of the Whole for consideration.
In a separate correspondence, the President also sought the Senate’s approval for the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The Senate referred the request to the Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, directing it to report back within one week.
Similarly, Tinubu requested the confirmation of Benedict Umeno for reappointment as a member of the Code of Conduct Bureau representing the South-East. The nomination was referred to the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption, also mandated to report within one week.
Darma, a Mechanical Engineering graduate of Bayero University, Kano, was the deputy governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party in 2023 before his removal by the party over alleged endorsement of an opposing candidate.
Yuguda is a former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission and has spent over three decades at the Central Bank of Nigeria.
