Tinubu Swears in Darma as Housing Minister

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Dr Muttaqha Darma as Minister of Housing and Urban Development at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the President’s Conference Room shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Darma’s appointment followed his confirmation by the Senate on Thursday after a screening exercise, with his nomination earlier transmitted to the chamber by the President and read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

During the screening, Darma pledged to collaborate with the National Assembly to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit, noting that more than 100 million Nigerians lack adequate housing.

He outlined plans to improve leadership in the housing sector, expand access to affordable homes and strengthen relevant institutions.

Darma succeeds Ahmed Dangiwa, whose exit came after a minor Federal Executive Council reshuffle announced by the Presidency on Tuesday.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the changes were aimed at enhancing coordination in governance and improving economic delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Dangiwa formally handed over the ministry on Thursday in line with a directive from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
