Wike-Backed PDP Faction Fixes ₦51m Presidential Form Ahead of 2027 Polls

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pegged its presidential nomination and expression of interest forms at ₦51 million and governorship form at ₦21 million ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The faction’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, disclosed this in a timetable released to journalists on Wednesday, outlining key activities for its primary elections.

According to the schedule, the faction will submit its register to the Independent National Electoral Commission on April 21 and notify the commission of its primaries on April 22.

The timetable shows that the expression of interest form for all positions costs ₦1 million, while nomination fees vary, with aspirants for State Houses of Assembly to pay ₦2 million, House of Representatives ₦3 million, Senate ₦5 million, governorship ₦20 million, and presidential aspirants ₦50 million.

Sale of forms is scheduled to begin on April 27 and end on May 4, while the deadline for submission of completed forms is May 9.

Screening for State Houses of Assembly, National Assembly and governorship aspirants will hold on May 11, while presidential aspirants will be screened on May 12.

The presidential primary has been fixed for May 18, governorship primaries for May 27, House of Representatives for May 21, Senate for May 23, and State Houses of Assembly primaries between May 21 and May 24, with appeals to be concluded by May 30.

Bature added that female aspirants would only pay the expression of interest fee for their chosen positions.

The development comes amid an ongoing crisis within the PDP, which has split the party into rival factions with multiple court cases still pending.

The Federal Government has announced that the traditional khaki uniform of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, will be replaced with Adire fabric as part of ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the scheme and promoting local production.
