Wike Denies Blocking Parties from Eagle Square, Insists No Application Received

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that any political party was denied access to the Eagle Square, stating that no formal application was submitted.

Speaking on Monday during an inspection of ongoing projects in Abuja, Wike said he was unaware of any such request, adding that allegations by the African Democratic Congress were attempts to gain public sympathy.

The minister explained that access to the facility is subject to due process, including formal application through the Abuja Investments Company Limited and payment of required fees.

He added that the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome is not under the control of the Federal Capital Territory Administration but the Sports Commission.

Wike said no political party would be denied use of public facilities if proper procedures are followed, citing previous use of venues by the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

The minister also expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing infrastructure projects in the capital, noting that key road works are expected to be completed by May 15, while installation of streetlights will be finalised before the end of May.
