Speaking at the party’s 2026 National Convention in Abuja, Mark described the ongoing crisis within the ADC as a generational challenge and called for unity among opposition leaders across Nigeria to safeguard democracy and address the country’s pressing issues.

He said the convention marked a critical moment for the party and the nation, emphasizing that the ADC’s goal goes beyond political power to demonstrating that democracy can deliver a better life for Nigerians.

Mark urged opposition figures, regardless of political affiliation, to collaborate in what he described as a patriotic duty to rescue Nigeria from what he termed creeping dictatorship and exploitative governance.

The former Senate President also alleged that forces opposed to a united ADC had attempted to frustrate the convention through the courts, institutions, and bureaucratic obstacles, including actions involving the . He claimed such efforts included removing party names from official platforms and denying access to preferred venues.

According to him, these challenges were aimed at preventing party members and delegates from gathering, but ultimately strengthened the resolve of the ADC.

Mark stressed that the party would not retreat in the face of adversity, noting that strong political movements are often forged during difficult times when citizens demand change and credible leadership.

He warned that the stakes extend beyond the ADC, describing the situation as a fight for the survival of Nigeria’s democracy. He maintained that yielding to pressure would amount to complicity in undermining democratic governance.

Reaffirming the party’s commitment, Mark said the ADC belongs to the Nigerian people and cannot be silenced through litigation or intimidation. He added that attempts to weaken the party had instead united its members and expanded its coalition.

He concluded by expressing confidence that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges, citing renewed commitment within the party to prioritize the welfare of citizens and restore the country’s democratic values.
