2027: Ex-AGF Malami Picks ADC Governorship Form in Kebbi

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has obtained the African Democratic Congress, ADC, governorship nomination form for the 2027 election in Kebbi State.

Malami announced his decision in a statement shared on Saturday through his official Facebook page, where he declared what he described as a “state of emergency on misgovernance” in the state.

The former minister said he could no longer remain silent amid worsening insecurity, poverty, poor healthcare services and declining educational standards in Kebbi State.

According to him, the decision to contest the governorship election was driven by concerns over what he termed severe governance and humanitarian challenges confronting the state.

Malami alleged that more than 67 per cent of children between the ages of six and 15 in Kebbi State are out of school, while over 88 per cent of children live in multidimensional poverty.

He also claimed that hundreds of severely malnourished children died within nine months in 2025, adding that maternal mortality and poor healthcare access in rural communities remain major concerns.

The former Attorney General further stated that insecurity had escalated in several parts of the state, citing repeated bandit attacks, kidnappings, displacement of farmers and declining economic activities.

He described the situation as evidence of misplaced priorities and the collapse of critical public sectors in the state.

Malami pledged to focus on security, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment and governance reforms if elected governor in 2027.

He said his ambition was driven by a commitment to accountability, public service and sustainable development, insisting that Kebbi State must move away from what he described as poor leadership and propaganda.
