2027: Obi, Kwankwaso’s Departure Weakens Opposition — Abdullahi

National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Bolaji Abdullahi, has said the departure of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the party to the Nigeria Democratic Congress could weaken opposition efforts ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Abdullahi stated that opposition parties would have a stronger chance of challenging President Bola Tinubu if they remained united rather than divided across multiple political platforms.

He spoke during an interview on AIT’s Political Platform programme, where he warned that fragmentation within the opposition would benefit the ruling party in the next general election.

According to him, the exit of Obi and Kwankwaso was not only a setback for the ADC but also for the broader opposition movement seeking to unseat the incumbent administration.

He noted that a united coalition would have presented a more formidable challenge in 2027, although he maintained that electoral victory for the opposition was still possible despite the divisions.

Abdullahi also clarified that any discussions involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other presidential aspirants were personal political engagements and did not represent the official position of the ADC.
