2027: PDP Announces Date to Screen Jonathan


The Peoples Democratic Party faction led by Tanimu Turaki is set to screen former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday as the party’s sole presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to reports, members of the screening panel include former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi, among others.

The development comes days after the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, announced that Jonathan had successfully registered as a member of the party during the fresh digital registration exercise directed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The faction backed by Seyi Makinde also disclosed that it would screen 748 House of Representatives aspirants, 198 senatorial aspirants, 112 governorship aspirants, and 2,122 state House of Assembly aspirants.

According to a statement posted on the party’s official Facebook page on Sunday, the nationwide screening exercise will begin on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, by 10:00 a.m.

The statement added that one presidential aspirant is expected to appear before the screening committee during the exercise.
