ADC Favoured Peter Obi Over Other Aspirants — Abdullahi

The African Democratic Congress has said former presidential candidate Peter Obi received more favourable treatment than other aspirants during his time in the party.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the claim on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme while reacting to Obi’s defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

Abdullahi dismissed Obi’s claim that internal wrangling forced his exit, insisting that the party’s legal challenges were minimal and could not justify his decision to leave.

He acknowledged that the departure of Obi and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, was significant but not a fatal blow to the party.

According to him, the ADC is focused on building a broad based coalition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.

He said the coalition became necessary due to what he described as the destabilisation of individual opposition parties.

Abdullahi noted that Obi and Kwankwaso held differing views on the party’s direction, adding that Obi had previously warned against opposition fragmentation ahead of the election.

He questioned the rationale behind Obi’s exit, particularly amid claims that legal disputes within the party were overwhelming.

The ADC spokesman maintained that only a few legal cases exist and described them as insignificant.

He reiterated that no aspirant or party leader enjoyed as much consideration within the ADC as Obi during his membership.
