ADC Postpones Presidential, Governorship Screening Exercise to May 18

The African Democratic Congress has postponed its presidential and governorship screening exercise to Monday, May 18, 2026, as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party announced the postponement in a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the screening exercise, which was initially scheduled to hold this weekend, was rescheduled without an official reason being provided.

The ADC also announced changes to the screening arrangements for some federal lawmaker aspirants from parts of Northern Nigeria affected by insecurity.

The party said the screening of affected aspirants would now take place in Abuja due to the security challenges in the region.

It added that all affected aspirants would be contacted directly and furnished with updated schedules and other necessary information.

The party expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the adjustment and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of aspirants and stakeholders.

The development comes as political parties across the country step up internal consultations, mobilisation and screening processes ahead of the 2027 general elections, which are expected to shape the political landscape in Nigeria.
