ADC Ticket Race: Amaechi Rejects VP Speculation

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed speculation that he purchased the presidential nomination form of the African Democratic Congress to later emerge as a vice presidential candidate.

Amaechi made the declaration on Monday during an interview on Trust TV while addressing the ongoing contest for the ADC presidential ticket ahead of the next general election.

The former governor of Rivers State insisted that he joined the race to contest for the presidency and not to settle for the position of running mate.

“Please stop that. I didn’t buy the ADC presidential ticket to become Vice President,” Amaechi said during the interview.

He also spoke on the issue of consensus within the party, stating that any agreement on a consensus candidate must follow consultations among aspirants and party stakeholders.

According to him, if aspirants fail to agree on a consensus arrangement, the party should allow all contenders to participate in transparent primary elections.

Amaechi’s comments come amid growing discussions over the ADC presidential ticket and internal debates surrounding zoning and candidate selection within the party.

The former minister had earlier challenged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to participate in party primaries after Atiku reportedly stated that he did not believe in zoning.
