Adelabu Loses as Alli Picks Oyo APC Guber Ticket

Senator Sarafadeen Alli has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election in Oyo State after polling 578,143 votes in the exercise conducted across the state.

Alli defeated former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, who secured 19,193 votes, alongside another aspirant in the contest.

The outcome of the primary was announced amid allegations of irregularities raised by Adelabu, who recently resigned from his ministerial position to contest the governorship ticket of the ruling party.

Adelabu had, on Thursday, alleged that the primary election was manipulated in several wards across the state.

The former minister made the allegation while speaking with journalists shortly after voting at his ward.

According to him, reports from different parts of the state indicated widespread infractions during the exercise.

“I must sound this note of warning that it is not this way in a lot of other wards,” Adelabu said.

“Reports reaching me state that there are a lot of gross misconducts in the other wards, ranging from various forms of infractions.”

He further alleged that voting commenced earlier than scheduled in some wards and that results were allegedly written before party members arrived to vote.

“In some wards, they conducted the election hours before the appointed time and wrote the figures they liked,” he added.

Despite the allegations, the APC concluded the exercise with the declaration of Alli as the party’s governorship candidate for the next election in Oyo State.
