Adelabu: Tinubu Approved My Resignation, Backs Oyo Governorship Bid

An All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has said President Bola Tinubu approved his resignation from office to pursue his gubernatorial ambition.

Adelabu disclosed this while addressing supporters, stating that the President gave him the green light to contest the Oyo State governorship election.

He said the approval followed a meeting with Tinubu, whom he described as the person who appointed him, noting that he delayed his resignation to seek the President’s consent.

According to him, Tinubu encouraged him to proceed with his ambition and assured him of support in facilitating a consensus candidate for the party.

Adelabu, a former Minister, however, clarified that the President has not endorsed any specific aspirant for the 2027 governorship race.

He added that Tinubu indicated that a direct primary could be adopted if efforts to produce a consensus candidate fail.

Adelabu also described himself as a loyal ally of the President in Oyo State, expressing confidence in his chances ahead of the election.
