Aisha Yesufu Dumps ADC for NDC, Declares FCT Senate Bid

Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has resigned from the African Democratic Congress and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, announcing her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Yesufu disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement shared on her X handle, linking her decision to a renewed political direction aligned with former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

She said her move followed a deeper understanding of Nigeria’s political future, adding that her support for Obi influenced both her initial entry into the African Democratic Congress and her latest defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

According to her, joining the NDC marks a continuation of her commitment, noting that she will not only participate as a member but also run for the FCT senatorial seat under the party.

Yesufu stated that she completed all responsibilities within the African Democratic Congress before her exit, describing the transition as smooth and expressing appreciation to party members for their support.

She added that her experience in various roles within the party structure was valuable and contributed to her political growth.

Her defection comes amid ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s opposition, following the recent move of Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, a development that has triggered further shifts from the African Democratic Congress.
