Amaechi Rejects ADC Presidential Primary Results
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential primary election, alleging widespread voter disenfranchisement and electoral malpractice during the exercise.
Amaechi made his position known in a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday, describing the results of the primary as “concocted” and inconsistent with the democratic principles the party promised to uphold.
The former Rivers State governor stated that he had earlier informed party leaders that he would only accept the outcome of the election if the process was free, fair and transparent.
According to him, about 80 percent of party members across the country were allegedly prevented from participating in the voting process, making the exercise unacceptable.
Amaechi accused the ADC of engaging in practices similar to those it had previously criticised in the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
He said the party could not condemn vote buying, election rigging and manipulation of results by others while allegedly carrying out similar actions during its own presidential primary.
Amaechi further described the development as a betrayal of the ideals upon which the ADC was founded, insisting that the process failed to reflect transparency, fairness and credibility.
