APC Clears Wike Loyalists, Disqualifies Fubara-Backed Aspirants

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has released the list of cleared and disqualified aspirants ahead of the party’s primaries for the 2027 general elections.

The party disclosed that 33 aspirants were cleared to participate in the primaries, while 65 others were disqualified from the exercise.

Among those affected were 32 aspirants reportedly aligned with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who were all disqualified by the screening committee.

In contrast, incumbent members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, were cleared to participate in the primaries.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Chibike Ikenga.

According to the statement, aspirants who purchased House of Assembly Expression of Interest and Nomination forms were advised to verify their status on the notice board at the party’s state secretariat located along Aba Road, Port Harcourt.

Ikenga also directed aggrieved aspirants to submit appeals through the party secretariat.

He disclosed that the appeal process would take place on Tuesday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at the APC state secretariat.

Meanwhile, the screening committee cited several reasons for the disqualification of affected aspirants.

The committee listed issues including nomination by party members who were not financially up to date, attempted inducement and bribery of committee members, submission of unsworn affidavits, failure to present voter cards and party membership documents, as well as inconsistencies in names and dates of birth submitted by aspirants.

Other reasons included insufficient nominations from wards, irregular membership numbers of nominators and invalid affidavits relating to NECO certificate details.
