APC Names Fubara, Other Govs as Coordinators for Presidential Primary
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has appointed Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, alongside serving and former governors, as coordinators and collation officers for its presidential primary election scheduled for May 24, 2026.
The ruling party also adopted the direct primary mode for the exercise, allowing all registered APC members across the country to participate in the selection of the party’s presidential candidate.
Details of the arrangement were contained in a document issued by the APC National Secretariat in Abuja and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
According to the document, the presidential primary will be conducted simultaneously in the country’s 8,809 wards.
The party stated that each state coordinator and collation officer would supervise the conduct of the exercise in their respective states and collate results from all local government areas before presenting them to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja.
“The organisation and conduct of the direct primary in each of the 36 states and the FCT shall be the responsibility of the State Coordinator and Collation Officer,” the document stated.
It added that the officials would transmit collated results to the Presidential Primary Election Committee on the same day of the exercise.
The APC further noted that the conduct of the primary would follow the provisions guiding direct and consensus primaries earlier submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Among those appointed as coordinators are Governor Fubara and several serving and former governors assigned to oversee the exercise in different states across the federation.
The move forms part of preparations by the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general election.
