APC Waives Screening for Tinubu Ahead of Presidential Primary

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has waived the screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the party’s presidential primary election.

The decision was reached on Wednesday during the committee’s 188th meeting held in Abuja, as preparations intensify for the upcoming primary.

In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Felix Morka, the committee declared that the president is deemed duly screened in line with the party’s constitution and is therefore eligible to participate in the primary without undergoing a fresh screening process.

The committee explained that the move followed widespread endorsements and a vote of confidence received by Tinubu from key stakeholders within the party, including the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other party organs during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025, as well as at other statutory meetings.

According to the statement, the committee also considered Tinubu’s status as the incumbent president and leader of the party, noting that he had already undergone screening ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries.

It added that requiring the president to appear again before a screening committee would be unnecessary and redundant under the current circumstances.
