APM Defends Alliance Move Ahead of 2027 Elections

The National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement, Yusuf Dantalle, has said the party entered into an alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections due to growing uncertainty over its legal status and the limited time left before the polls.

Dantalle stated this during an interview on Arise Television on Saturday.

According to him, the decision was jointly reached by the party leadership alongside Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed.

He said the alliance became necessary as preparations for the elections gathered momentum.

“Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, alongside the party leadership, felt that with elections approaching and uncertainty around the legal status, time was running out, so an alliance became necessary,” Dantalle said.

He added that those admitted into the party through the agreement were free to contest for elective positions.

Dantalle described the APM as a peaceful and law abiding political party, noting that the leadership had maintained internal stability by operating within the provisions of the law.

The party chairman also said every member’s opinion matters in the party, stressing that although the APM requires financial resources to sustain its activities, it would not allow political godfathers to dictate its affairs.

“We need financial resources to drive the activities of the party, but we would not hoodwink ourselves with any godfather to determine what happens in our party,” he said.
