Atiku Urges ADC to Choose Competence Over Popularity

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged delegates of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to prioritise competence, experience and national appeal when selecting the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku warned against relying on social media popularity and public hype in choosing a candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next election.

The former presidential candidate stated that Nigeria’s current economic and security challenges require an experienced leader capable of governing effectively from the first day in office.

According to him, the ADC cannot afford to field what he described as an untested candidate at a time the country is battling economic hardship, rising debt, insecurity and institutional failures.

Atiku said presidential elections are won through political structure, strategy and governance capacity rather than social media enthusiasm.

He stressed that the party must present its strongest and most credible candidate to Nigerians, insisting that the presidency is not a position for experimentation or improvisation.

The former Vice President added that the country needs a leader with experience in crisis management, coalition building, economic planning and international negotiations to restore national stability and economic growth ahead of 2027.
