El-Rufai Secures ₦100m Bail

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of ₦100 million with one surety in like sum.

Delivering the ruling in Abuja, Justice Abdulmalik outlined strict conditions the defendant must fulfil before the bail can be perfected.

The court ruled that the surety must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro in Abuja and must deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property with the court registry.

According to the ruling, the surety must also be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and provide proof of salary payments for at least three months. The documents must be authenticated through a letter from a bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.

The court further directed the surety to depose to an affidavit of means, enter into a bail bond, and submit a recent passport photograph to the court registry.

As part of the conditions, El-Rufai was ordered to surrender all valid international passports to the court registry.

Justice Abdulmalik also directed that the surety submit a verification letter from his or her department, alongside a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.

Pending the determination of the case, the former governor was ordered to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register.

The judge warned that any failure to comply with the bail conditions would result in an automatic revocation of the bail.

The court also ordered the defendant to provide a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.
