Galadima Signals New Opposition Platform as Obi, Kwankwaso Eye Defection

The Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Buba Galadima, has disclosed that key opposition figures will unveil a new political platform on Monday ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Saturday at a stakeholders’ meeting of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement in Abuja, Galadima said former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso are among leaders expected to make the announcement.

Although the platform was not officially named, sources close to the development indicated that both politicians are finalising plans to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress, reportedly linked to former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson.

A source familiar with the discussions confirmed that arrangements have been concluded, adding that Obi, Kwankwaso, and their allies had recently met with party leaders to complete necessary documentation.

The planned move follows weeks of uncertainty surrounding opposition alliances, especially after recent developments involving the Supreme Court of Nigeria and internal party structures.

Galadima also warned that the announcement could trigger coordinated criticism, including media and social media attacks, urging supporters to prepare to respond effectively.

He called on party loyalists, particularly those active online, to defend the integrity of the leaders and counter any negative narratives that may arise following the declaration.
