Gov AbdulRazaq Urges Tinubu to Raise Minimum Wage to N100,000
Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider increasing Nigeria’s national minimum wage to N100,000, citing the wage levels already being paid by many state governments.
AbdulRazaq made the appeal on Friday during a Sallah homage paid to President Tinubu at his Lagos residence by members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Speaking on behalf of the governors, AbdulRazaq said most states were already paying workers close to N100,000 and urged the Federal Government to initiate discussions on raising the national minimum wage benchmark.
“On the issue of minimum wage, most of the states are paying almost 100,000 naira today and I urge Your Excellency, let’s all have a discussion in moving the minimum wage to 100,000,” he said.
The NGF chairman expressed confidence that the Federal Government would support the proposal if discussions on the wage increase moved forward.
“We know we will get the normal support from you as we go ahead to implement that,” AbdulRazaq added.
The call comes amid ongoing conversations on workers’ welfare and efforts to improve living standards in the face of rising economic pressures across the country.
