Jonathan Disowns Alleged Instagram Account, Warns Public Against Impersonation
The Office of former President Goodluck Jonathan has disowned a trending Instagram account operating under the handle @goodluck_ebelejonathan, describing it as fake and warning the public against being misled by its content.
The clarification was made on Friday in a statement issued by Jonathan’s media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, who said the former president does not own, operate or maintain any personal account on Instagram.
According to Eze, the account has repeatedly altered its identity while presenting itself as affiliated with the former president, thereby misleading members of the public.
“May the public take note that the account represents itself as a fan page at times and impersonates the former president most of the time,” Eze said.
He disclosed that the account’s username had been changed 13 times and counting, expressing hope that Meta would take appropriate action to address the issue.
“The username has been changed 13 times and counting and we hope that Meta does the needful in due time,” he added.
Eze further warned that the account alternates between claiming to be a fan page and impersonating Jonathan, stressing that its activities are designed to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
The former president’s office urged the public to disregard the account and remain cautious of social media profiles falsely claiming affiliation with Jonathan.
