Jonathan Meets Turaki-Led PDP Faction Amid 2027 Speculation

A factional national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by Tanimu Turaki, on Friday held a strategic meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan amid growing speculation over the 2027 presidential election.

The meeting came less than 48 hours after Jonathan disclosed that he was consulting widely on the possibility of contesting the 2027 presidential race.

Jonathan made the disclosure on Thursday while addressing a group of Nigerians who visited his office in Abuja to urge him to run for president in the next election.

Responding to the appeal, the former president said contesting for the nation’s top office required careful consideration and broad consultations before any decision could be taken.

“You are asking me to come and contest the next election. The presidential race is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you, and I’ll consult widely,” Jonathan said.

The development has further fueled discussions within the PDP and among political stakeholders over Jonathan’s possible return to active presidential politics ahead of 2027.
