Kwara Govt Holds First Computer-Based Promotion Exam for Civil Servants

 The Kwara State Government has introduced computer-based promotion examinations for civil servants, replacing the long-standing paper-based system in the state public service.

The Acting Head of Service, Olufunke Shittu, disclosed this on Tuesday during an inspection of the exercise at the CBT centre of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, where civil servants sat for the digitised promotion examination.

She described the reform as a major shift in the state’s administrative process, saying it aligns with global standards and is aimed at improving credibility and efficiency in public service operations.

According to her, the new system marks the beginning of a transformation in the state civil service and is designed to address challenges such as missing scripts, delays in marking and human errors associated with the former paper-based method.

Shittu said the initiative is the first of its kind in Kwara State and forms part of broader reforms to enhance efficiency, accountability and service delivery across ministries and agencies.

She credited Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for supporting the transition, noting that his administration has consistently promoted innovation in governance.

The Head of Service also commended the State Civil Service Commission for coordinating the exercise and ensuring smooth implementation through adequate planning and staff training.

She urged civil servants to embrace digital skills, stating that technological competence is now essential in modern public administration.

Shittu assured participants of adequate technical support during the exercise and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a transparent and performance driven civil service in the state.

The Federal Government has approved a comprehensive restructuring of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, marking the first major reform of the scheme since its establishment 53 years ago. The approval was granted at the federal executive council meeting held in Abuja on Monday as part of efforts to reposition the NYSC into a skills-focused and productivity-driven institution aligned with the Federal Government’s economic and youth development agenda. The Federal Government has announced that the traditional khaki uniform of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, will be replaced with Adire fabric as part of ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the scheme and promoting local production.
