Kwara PDP Gov Aspirants Adopt Consensus Arrangement

Five governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State have agreed to adopt a consensus arrangement ahead of the 2027 governorship election, in a move aimed at strengthening unity within the party.

The decision was contained in a letter of agreement obtained on Monday, following what the aspirants described as extensive and cordial consultations held at the Maitama residence of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

In the agreement, the aspirants said they resolved to place the overall interest of the party above individual ambitions to avoid division and strengthen cohesion ahead of the election.

They also agreed to recommend a consensus process for the emergence of the party’s governorship candidate, stressing the need to conserve time and resources while presenting a united front.

The aspirants further pledged to accept the decision of the party leadership and support whoever eventually emerges as the flag bearer of the party.

Those who signed the agreement include Ali Ahmad, Omar Bolaji Gambari, Ladi Hassan Athavs, Olaseni Ibiwoye (SAN), and Kale Kawu.

They also committed to engaging their supporters across the state to ensure compliance with the arrangement and prevent actions capable of undermining party unity.

Confirming the development, the party’s spokesperson, Olusegun Adewara, described the document as authentic, indicating official acknowledgment of the consensus move within the Kwara PDP.

The arrangement is expected to shape the party’s preparation for the 2027 elections by reducing the risk of divisive primaries that have historically affected opposition parties in the state.
