Makinde-backed PDP to Screen Over 3,000 Aspirants Ahead of 2027 Elections

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party backed by Seyi Makinde will screen 3,181 aspirants seeking various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party disclosed this in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Sunday, stating that the nationwide screening exercise is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, by 10:00 a.m.

According to the statement, the aspirants include 2,122 contestants for state houses of assembly seats, 748 for the House of Representatives, 198 for the Senate, and 112 governorship hopefuls. The party also confirmed that one presidential aspirant will appear before the screening committee.

The statement further revealed that the Interim National Working Committee, iNWC, has released the names of members appointed to serve on the Screening Committees and Screening Appeal Panels.

The party said the release of the screening details was in line with its guidelines and timetable for preparations toward the 2027 general elections.
