Makinde Says PDP Will Produce Next President

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said the Peoples Democratic Party will produce Nigeria’s next president in the 2027 general elections.

Makinde made the statement on Monday while addressing party members and stakeholders during the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting of his backed PDP faction held in Abuja.

He expressed confidence in the party’s capacity to reclaim power at the national level, insisting that the PDP remains strongly positioned ahead of the polls.

Makinde said the outcome of the gathering would produce federal and state lawmakers as well as governors and ultimately the next president of Nigeria.

He urged party members to remain united and focused on rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

At the meeting, the faction ratified the appointment of a 13 member Caretaker Committee headed by Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as chairman.

The decision followed a motion moved by Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and seconded by ex officio member Clement Fagboyede.

Other members of the committee include Taofeek Arapaja as National Secretary, Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi and Okechukwu Obiechina.

The development comes amid leadership tensions within the party following a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025, deepening internal divisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
