Makinde to Unveil Presidential Bid, PDP–APM Alliance Thursday

Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to formally declare his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on Thursday, May 14, during a major political rally scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The rally, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” is also expected to feature the unveiling of a political alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party, the Allied Peoples’ Movement and other candidates linked to an emerging coalition reportedly being championed by the Oyo State governor and his loyalists.

Sources familiar with the development disclosed on Tuesday that preparations for the event had intensified amid growing political realignments within Oyo State and across the South-West region.

According to the sources, grassroots mobilisers, political associates and loyalists of Governor Makinde have begun strategic consultations as efforts to build a broader political structure continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election.

Political observers said the moves are aimed at strengthening grassroots support across Oyo State and beyond while consolidating Makinde’s rising influence within the national political landscape.

Further findings revealed that consultations among stakeholders accelerated in recent weeks following unresolved internal disputes within the PDP at the national level, prompting some loyalists and political actors to explore alternative political arrangements.

The May 14 rally is expected to attract political stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders, traditional supporters and allies from different parts of the country, particularly individuals believed to share Governor Makinde’s political vision and leadership style.

Although Governor Makinde has yet to officially confirm his intention to run for president in 2027, support groups and political associates have continued to intensify calls urging him to join the race.
